Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is recognizedÂ by the World Health Organization as a globalÂ epidemic affecting 284-347 million people inÂ the world depending on the inclusion criteriaÂ used (Danaei et al. 2011; American DiabetesÂ Association 2013). Co morbidities associatedÂ with T2D are hypertension, cardiovascularÂ diseases (CVD) (Castelli 1984; Wilson et al.Â 2005) and diabetic nephropathy (DN) (Shah etÂ al. 2009; Shao et al. 2013). There is an unmetÂ need for therapies curing or preventing theÂ progression of T2D and combined pathologiesÂ (Grundy 2008).
